Ah, no. I'm not shy. I'm just not used to being-
[There's a pause. He's still tipsy.]
Not used to being safe enough to consider it, I guess.
no subject
Oh. I see.
[Somehow that hurts her heart more than a little. It's not safe where he's from?]
Hey Vash where are you?
no subject
In a park by the docks. You can see the water and the trees are happy.
[Benches are for people who aren’t Vash. He’s settled under a few trees, back against it, hand on a protruding root.]
no subject
[Which is good because she has a new friend she needs to ambush with a hug apparently because he just shared a sad thing.
So it's not very long after her message comes through that Vash will have a little blue blur settling in next to him and his tree, grappling him in a hug.] Found you!
no subject
His heart thuds fast as he wraps an arm around her. Hugs should always be returned.] You did. I never heard of the Feywild either. Where is that?
no subject
Umm. The where is complicated. It's another plane, and it sort of touches Exandria? But you can't just like, go there like normal travel. You have to find a way into it. I don't know, it's a weird place.
[She's still leaning into him.]
Is it really dangerous where you're from?

[He goes quiet for a moment. He's heard from other people that their worlds don't work like his. He takes a breath. Her question lies there like a book he should pick up.] At home, there are two groups of people. Humans and Plants. Plants were made by people and connected to a plane beyond. It's how water and the like come to our desert planet.
But plants are delicate. They need to be kept in special facilities to survive. People take them for granted, but...they need them to live. Without one in a city, the city is dead. It's the way of life in No Man's land.
[He stares up straight ahead, lost in the tides of memory. He pauses and grabs the bottle he brought with him. He takes a swig of it. He needs that before he keeps going. It's only because she isn't human either that this story is coming out at all.] ...Not all plants are delicate. Two wander the world with wills and minds of their own. And they disagree with each other about humans. One sides with humanity. He runs into problems at times. He is...more than expected. Disasters seem to follow him as he does what he can to help. It earned him a bounty on his head.
But so far, no one knows what he is. How long he has lived. People forgot independent plants could happen. It's better they call him a 'human typhoon'. Or 'Vash the Stampede'. Than realizing independents have gates the likes of which a regular plant...doesn't.
I chose to believe in humans. But I don't have illusions what would happen if they realized that. They're desperate to survive the harshness of No Man's Land. Any advantage would be worth it, to them. And one they see as an enemy already? Easier yet.
My brother already tried to use me for his own ends.

[Jester begins, but falls quickly silent as he continues and the explanation comes anyway. The smile has fallen away from her face, right around the moment when it becomes clear that what he's talking about is him. Vash the Stampede. All of this sounds so sad and so lonely.
If no one knows what he is, how long he has been alive, even if he's with people, doesn't that mean he's still separate.
She's still leaning against him, and her eyes widen noticeably at those last words.]
Vash... [She leans a little more into him.] That's a lot to carry all by yourself, to have to even keep a secret about what you are.
[Jester is quieter than her usual exuberance, but she has this side to her too, a gentle heart that's never been able to just watch people hurting.]
I'm a tiefling. And sometimes humans think that we're tainted by hell or something else stupid, but that just means sometimes people are dicks. [Not a danger to her existence.]
Whatever you are, if you're a plant, you're still a person, and you should get to live your own life how you want to, without anyone using you for what they want. And you're my friend, so if anyone messes with you here, I've got your back, okay? I'm way tougher than I look.
[And then quieter, like the words are delicate somehow.] You don't have to be alone here, okay?
no subject
I’ve got your back too. It is stupid they think that of you. You only made me think of flowers when I saw you.
[Flowers have their thorns because they need to. Then he smiles, something a little more relaxed and warmer somehow because it’s like a flower opening up.] I’m tougher than I look too.

[She teases, reaching up to poke them to try to lighten the mood a bit, even if she's smiling at the tighter hug.]
You know, my friend Caduceus would love to talk to you. He talks to plants like all the time, and I guess they talk back? But nothing like this much conversation.
no subject
…when I connect to the other plants they don’t say a lot either. Well, never in words. Their voices are more like music. Maybe that’s what he’s been hearing all this time?
