This setting is too perfect for my wayward steampunk mages! They are all OCs from the same world. Here are the top candidates!

Character: Altair

About: Altair was the first and last commoner to be chosen as a mage and the consequences of that choice, which was forced onto him has left him scarred and very distrusting of others. He tries to keep people at a distance but he's fiercely loyal and surprisingly sweet to anyone who slips past his walls. He's a shadow mage, a being made of magic that is tied to his human soul. As the shadow mage he can shape his magic into shadows and he has a connection to souls that allows him to hear a person's soul song, a musical representation of their soul, when he touches someone's shadow.

Altair was forced to join the noble aristocracy when he was chosen as a mage and he hates pretending to be a noble so he will love it here lol. I'm also taking him from an earlier timeline than I usually play him. His home hasn't been destroyed so he's less traumatized and more rebellious.

Character: Sheliak Saarela

About: Sheliak is a the only son and heir to the Saarela house. He has strived to be the perfect son to the point where he even hides his flaws behind an icy mask of perfection. He rarely shows his flawed side to anyone and has always put his responsibility to the family above everything else, with one exception. As the water mage, he can shape his magic into water and he has the gift of foresight, specifically how close someone is to death.

Unlike Altair Sheliak has always been a noble and he takes comfort in etiquette's strict rules so he will fit right in with the setting.

Character: Rastaban Aesen
Canon: Original
About: Rastaban was born weak and as the sole son of a noble house that weakness reflected poorly on his family so he created the persona of a twin sister to protect his family's public image. As a woman he and his family faced less criticism and he was free to be what he wanted without having to deal with anyone's pity. As Rasta, he's quiet and polite, while Rastaban is blunt and sarcastic. Rasta protects his image so he don't worry about speaking his mind when he can be himself, usually at home or with trusted friends. He rarely goes outside as Rastaban, which suits him just fine. He's an herbalist who finds plants much better company than people. He gets more than enough social interaction as Rasta.

Rastaban is an energy vampire. As the life mage he can shape see and steal life energy. Unlike the other mages, Rastaban's magic need life energy. He can use his own, or steal from others. Due to his weak body, he's addicted to life energy but he has only gone too far and killed someone once and he swore to never do it again.
