[Part of it is that he wants to be mad. Wants to take this man they loved and trusted and needed by the shoulders and shake him and go "nice to see you, is that all you have to say?"

He's never been one to hold a grudge, though. And if Steve went back in time and stayed there, somehow not fucking around with time enough to unravel it all, to be happy, to live a life he never got to live--

He deserves that, doesn't he? If any of them deserve it, it's Steve Rogers, Man Out Of Time. But either he decided on what happened while in the middle of his time hopping, or he decided it earlier before he left and decided not to tell anyone, and the latter seems like such an asshole move. There's always going to be part of him that wants to see Steve again and ask, god, what happened on Vormir? If the idea was to take the Stones back to the moment they were taken--

--was her body still--

The year and the Raft spill out of Steve's mouth, and the grip on his glass tightens. Lowers it. Sets it down before he's liable to drop it or throw it. (He is not liable to do either of these things, but it's the principle.)]

What's the last thing you remember before ending up here?
