Booker DeWitt | Bioshock Infinite | ota

Skinny Dipping CW: Mentions of drowning and murder.

[ Booker did not expect to come to the surface. Elizabeth was supposed to kill him. He was supposed to drown and that would be the end of it. All the pain, the blood, and suffering that he brought wouldn’t happen.

Smother him in his crib.

But he came gasping to the surface in a lush pond with no fucking idea how he got there. He pushes his hair back and looks around. He’s in… in a jungle? He’s in the water in the jungle. Did Elizabeth open a tear? That’s not how this was supposed to work out. He’s supposed to drown and she’s supposed to be free of all his bullshit and failures. He’s supposed to be free of them too.

Instead, he’s in a lovely moonlight pond completely naked. In the middle of a jungle. Somewhere. And there’s no Elizabeth standing at the edge of the water to greet him and explain what is going on.

He can hear voices somewhere in the jungle. They sound like women, giggling and singing? He swims to the edge of the pond and pulls himself up to sit on the edge. ]

Hello? [ Booker holds up his hand and tries to summon a little light from Devil’s Kiss but the flames sputter and spark then die into nothing. He scowls. Must be out of Salt. ] Anyone there? Someone tell me what the hell’s going on?

[ Great. No Salt. No clothes. Not dead. This is not what Booker wanted when he got pushed under the water. ]

Butterflies

[ Someone left a pair of pants and a shirt hanging on a branch for him. What Booker really wanted was a pack of cigarettes and a glass of whiskey… oh, and answers, but clothes are a good start to those things. No one’s going to tell a naked man anything.

The garden now is filled with glowing butterflies. He keeps brushing into them or having to brush them out of his hair. They leave little dustings of pollen on his clothes. Booker thinks he must look like one of the signs in Battleship Bay all lit up with spots of light.

He brushes another one out of his hair and then gets hit with a hard wave of want. The shock of it makes him stop because he’s rapidly becoming hard and there’s no good reason for it. He staggers a few more steps before he has to brace his hand on a tree and squeeze his erection through his pants. ]

Christ. [ He growls the word. It brings some relief but not enough. Booker tries to stop thinking about it but it feels impossible to pull his hand away. Even biting his lip so hard it bleeds doesn’t seem to stop the desire to get off.

He manages. Somehow. Maybe because he’s great at being a fucking martyr. But he only staggers a few more steps before he’s touching himself again. Hopefully, no one finds him like this. He’ll just get off and be on his way.

Yeah, that’s the best plan for him right now. Booker leans back against a tree, closes his eyes, and shoves his hand down his pants to wrap around his aching cock. ]

The Greenhouse Effect

[ It finally feels like Booker is getting somewhere. He’s still in the jungle but he’s away from the pond and the butterflies. He’s still lost but he can see the glass panes of a greenhouse. That’s where he’s been all this time. Lost in some monstrous greenhouse. This has to be some sort of tear that he’s fallen through. Without Elizabeth he’s got no idea how he’ll get out but she’s got to be somewhere.

Booker is not thinking about how his nose didn’t bleed and how he doesn’t have memories of another Booker flooding his mind. If he thinks too hard about that he’ll have a lot of questions that he knows he won’t get answers to.

No Leuteces either.

When he spots someone ahead of him on the path he takes a few jogging steps to catch up and reaches for their arm. ]

Hello, sorry to bother you. [ His tone is polite but firm. He should try for friendly, he knows given how he looks like a disheveled bastard but he wants answers, not to make friends. Made enough of those with the butterflies. ] But I’m a little lost. Any idea how to get out of this place?

[ Because in all his searching Booker’s never found a door or a way out. Since he got in here without taking a door maybe he should ask about a strange hole in the air. That might get him an exit. ]

I’m not sure where I am but I need to find my daughter.
